Ideally yes, if they can't GPL their drivers, then move to userspace. The 
problem, as I've stated elsewhere is that for the average user, the 
communication was that we are switching off binary kernel drivers now, and 
those manufacturers that are willing can convert to userspace if they want, 
and we'll help... What would have been the proper way to phrase this is "we 
will switch off binary kernel drivers in n months, and we will help suppliers 
move their drivers to userspace if they want."

As it is, what was announced made the LKD's sound like the bad guys and the 
manufacturers the injured party because they are expected to switch their 
driver model overnight...

I'm sure this isn't the case, but for the average Joe that is the appearance 
the Kernel Developers have engendered.
