I have strange problems - I can't write to it.

I tried with and without "sync", this is without.
I tried also to trigger the "don't mount" in hal, but when I
connect the disk, konqueror launches, what seems to mean the
disk is mounted.
note that the copy _from_ the usb disk to linux is extremely
fast...

What tells you command mount?
Here is mine:
/dev/sda2 on /media/usbdisk type subfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,sync,fs=ext3)
This is fresh install of 10.0 where sync is not removed yet.
I use USB HD pretty often and there is no problems.
It was small problem on old installation when KDE 3.5 was installed with
default to check for new connected devices, so SuSEwatcher opened its
windows and KDE its own :-)
Disabling KDED Media Manager in KDE Control Center -- KDE Components --
Service Manager solved the problem.
