XGL is quite solid on 10.1 now. And is easy to configure. I have a laptop with ATI Mobility and it works very well, and is now my preferred configuration. I love the looks from people when I move a window, and they say "what was that?", I then say "Oh nothing" as I switch desktops by spinning the cube.
