You'll need to be sure all your smartmodem files are installed from the DVD then use YaST2 to set up the modem. If all goes well, you should have a working connection after finishing. Be sure to set the timeout to 0 (zero) so it doesn't disconnect after a few minutes. Also, Linspire may have included the proprietary kernel modules/drivers for it, if it's a winmodem, which may not be included with SuSE 10.1.
