Ok, it's not the router. I tried my old netgear router and it behaved
the same way. I've been trying to change the hostname/domain in YAST,
since this is a new network. I don't know why, but this changes the
wired network host/domain as well. Does the host and domain have to be
"correct" for the wireless to route?
I'm about to give up and install redhat 5 or ubuntu.

I have a Belkin 802.11g router.. works fine with my laptop (Inspiron
E1505 with Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card) on SUSE Linux 10.1
