I had a quite similar problem with my Asus motherboard where Suse 10.0 installation locked after the restart. I simply had to disable the onboard ethernet in the BIOS and since then everything runs like a dream :-) Don't know, if this helps, my motherboard is quite old... (P4PE). good luck!
