I just started playing around with beta 2 of 10.2. For those who are
about to embark on this adventure you might want to know about one
"feature" and one bug (which I'll be reporting).
Both apply in the installation stage and/or later when you try to use
Yast2 Control Centre to get the following 2 things working.
The feature: if you deselect, or not select, the button to provide
Novell with the Hardware Profile information during the stage when the
initial source server for any upgrades is being allocated, this process
will not complete -- it doesn't crash -- and you will not be able to
even have a list of the software which was installed on your (new)
system. During installation this step occurs just after the first test
connect to the Internet is performed and you are then asked if you want
to "register" your new system. If you skip this step here you can then
later use the Yast2 Control Centre>Online Update Configuration option
and here, again, if you do not at least select Hardware Profile then the
result is a big zero.
The bug: if you trying to configure your TV card and try to scan for the
available TV stations, this step will fail- no stations are seen. You
will probably get an error message stating, "sh: /usr/X11R6/bin/scantv:
no such file or directory" . This error message is correct because the
scantv file has been taken out of the X11R6 directory and moved to the
/usr/bin directory. The quick workaround for this would be to put a
symlink in /usr/X11R6/bin/ pointing to scantv in /usr/bin/.
Cheers.
