OK, does /opt/kde3/share/icons/ still exist, and do you still have a
/opt/kde3/share/icons/default.kde/? That should be a link to whatever
you've selected as your default theme.

If the icons directory does exist, check to see if it got updated to the
new kde -- it should be owned by kde3libs (plus 2 or 3 other packages
such as gnome-libs, which shouldn't be relevant).
