Actually, it was 640K.  Prior to the IBM PC,  8 bit computers were
generally limited to 64k.  The PC could access 640K at that time, which
was 10x what the 8 bit systems were capable of.  Incidentally, that
first PC came with all of 16K bytes in the base system.
