I saw something similar the other day.
I was typing in Pine inside an xterm, and suddenly, a key would repeat for
a second even after I had released the key. At that precise instant,
Firebird was busy autoreloading a large page with javascript. It happened
several times.
My system is single cpu, P-IV @ 1800. Using Gnome.
Is you are looking at the kernel, my guess would be this settings:
Preemption Model (Voluntary Kernel Preemption (Desktop)) --->
Timer frequency (250 HZ) --->
