I'm no expert on nvidia. I see in the log that no valid 1680x1050 mode
was found, but have no idea why.

Just as a test, I suggest you manually edit xorg.conf and substitute in
the line above "nv" for "nvidia" and see if 1680x1050 works.

 about two months ago, and it works with every video card I've tried
just fine in factory and 10.0.
