The extended attributes supported a huge amount (64K bytes) of data about each item. It included things like history, key words, comments etc., all searchable Also, the icon on the desktop was part of the file, so the file couldn't get "lost" if it was moved etc. One nice thing I recall, from my Compuserve days, was that when a zipped file was downloaded, the contents of "file.idz" (IIRC), was automatically included in the description tab of the icon. This was a text file that described the contents of the zipped file. There's a whole lot more that I've never seen elsewhere.
