Not a new user. But I did try with a new .kde directory. I moved the
existing one out of the way. I took longer to fail, so I guess it was
populating the new .kde directory it made. So perhaps this is an
indicator of it getting at least that far. I also deleted EVERYTHING
in /tmp. No difference.
