Well, I dunno about on KDE, but on GNOME the first thing that happens
when you hibernate is that the screen is locked, so anyone who opened
the laptop would still need to provide your password.

Remember that a laptop without an encrypted $HOME is dangerous whether
you halt or hibernate if it's lost.
