You don't say which version you're using, Doc. I had the same problem with 10.1, and got everything to work by NOT registering during the setup process. Instead, run the Yast updater with the default selections, YAST will update itself, do it again, and then once more. You'll find that YAST has installed the Suse Update repository and a whole bunch of other stuff. Now go and register if you want to.
