I was going to suggest Cedega (transgaming.com) but it seems it doesn't work 
for the Sims2.  I know what you mean about the high failure rate for Linux 
game companies -  look at Loki.  A shame, but the developers of fizzball - 
www.grubbygames.com - seem to have a good development platform that caters 
for both Win32 and Linux platforms.  Maybe a few more developers should use 
that approach?
