Hi, I have used SuSE 9.3 DVD for installation. Built myself a brand new 2.6.19.2 stock kernel from kernel.org. Used the 2.6.11.4-20a-default configuration as a template, only minor changes for hardware that doesn't exist anyway (PCMCIA/BT/IrDA/Telephony/ISDN/Audio etc...) But added much needed SMP support!!! (for dualcore procs)
Installed kernel, modules and System.map in the right places... Ran the following command to create a new initrd: mkinitrd -k vmlinuz-2.6.19.2-default-smp -i initrd-2.6.19.2-default-smp There seem to be no errors during the initrd creation... Modified lilo.conf to add new kernel (with the exact same parameters as Linux) When booting, it all seems fine... No errors during module loads (so that makes me believe mkinitrd is selecting the proper kernel modules ;) It properly loads the via82cxxx module, and shows me the hdd's and partitions (like the original kernel does too) But then it stops with the message: Waiting for /dev/root to appear: not found It drops me back to a completely useless shell ;) *grrr* I hope anyone knows what I can try more to fix this problem...
