Yes and No.


Unfortunately, many web "authors" are using Flash as a display medium.  The 
guilty include Novell, as you can see a Flash-based advertisement right on 
their home page.  

For those of you not using *nix as a desktop, this is kind of a non-issue, 
because you won't need flash to run.

However, for those of use using SUSE/Unix/Linux as a upgrade from Wintendo or 
the Cult of Mac, it is a necessary evil. Until I got the beta of Flash 9 
running, I was shut out of many websites.  Some were just using Flash 8 for 
marketing stuff, while others are actively using Flash as a browser-based 
application framework. 

For example, while some WebOS application vendors are using AJAX, others like 
g.ho.st (http://g.ho.st/) and Desktop Two (http://desktoptwo.com/) are using 
Flash as their engine.
