First of all, you have to install it. If you go through the stock installer, it asks you if you want KDE or Gnome. If you say Gnome, you don't get the KDE installation. You can have both, but you have to configure that specifically. (I forget if there's a simple installation option for both or if you have to do the detailed package selection, since I always do the detailed variant.)
