In this case, for an external drive to be used for backup, ext3 is better
as it can be used from windows easily. It is also easier to repair.
If you have your normal internal partitions using reiserfs, that's fine.
There is no reason to change.
If you search this list archive you will see probably hundreds of emails
discussing this very question.
For external... I'm not so sure. What happens in case of accidental
unplugging while writing, will it be repairable? Maybe it works perfect,
maybe not: I simply do not know either way.
