I'm trying to get the scanner portion of my CX5400 running under SuSE 10.1 (it
has worked previously (in 10.0 I think) but I haven't needed to use it in
quite some time....
The output of sane-find-scanner is below
mymachine:/var/log # sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04b8 [EPSON], product=0x0808 [USB MFP]) at
libusb:004:019

while the output of scanimage -L is
mymachine:/var/log # scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

Yast shows that it has detected the scanner and allows me to attach a driver
but then says the device is not configured

I've edited the /etc/sane.d/epson.conf file and added the
usb 0x04b8 0x0808
as suggested by the opensuse SDB page and www.linuxprinting.org
recommendations but still can't get xsane to 'see' the scanner.

The confusing bit for me now is that epson.conf shows a line
usb /dev/usbscanner and I do not have this in /dev
the example in www.linuxprinting.com shows the output from sane-find-scanner
shows /dev/usbscanner0 at the end of the usb scanner line while I'm showing
libusb:004:019
Do I need to add libusb:004:019 anywhere?
Can anyone help?

Thanks Phil
