[opensuse] Pertition Numbering

Found a link on the novell site 
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/15340.html that shows the 
numbering and editing of the menu.lst, however, it doesn't show how one 
would either include or exclude the extended partition in the numbering. 

not knowing which combination of numbers, this could take awhile to figure 
out. so if I have sda1, sda2, sda5, sda6, sda7, sda8, and sda9 would it be 
0,1,4,5,6,7 and 8?  or would it be 0,1,2,3,4,5,6
