Yes, very deeply hidden, poorly documented, it was easier to 
dig through the general documentation installed already on the
computer and create a script than to figure out what the
sysconfig stuff is used fof.

I ultimately just created a script in /etc/pm/ to restart alsasound.
This seems to work perfectly.
