I am in need of some help regarding dial-up internet access using an older (1999) Gateway laptop computer. It was built for Windows 98 and before I purchased it for a song a couple of years ago the previous owner had loaded Windows 2000. Dial-up worked fine in Windows, but the blue-screen came knocking the other day and so I just wiped it and loaded openSuSE 10 (which I am genially very happy with by the way). I went through the modem set-up, set up my provider information, and installed Kinternet, but I cannot get the modem to function and I have no idea where to begin to solve this problem. It goes through the motions of connecting and then craps out. I suppose my questions are:
How do I determine, short of opening up the machine, what model and type of modem I currently have (is there a hardware detection utility)? How do I find out if it will work with openSuSE 10? If it won't work what are my best options for dial-up? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
