If you're using KDE (and if you're not you should be) then right click on the 
power management icon in the system tray. 

Left click "Start YAST2 Power Management Module"

Enter your password

There you have a choice of schemes. You can click on Edit Scheme to customize 
it to your tastes.


You might be able to do this in Gnome, too, but i'm not sure.
