A little specificity man!!!

Which sound chipset is in the machine?

There are tons of posts around the net of people having a great deal
of problem iwht some Intel High Definition Audio / Sigmatel chipsets.
These are usually found on late model machines.

(In fact I had a brand spanking new Dell Dimension 9200 in for a Suse 10.2
install this week. I spent a whole day trying to get that damn sound system
to work with all the latest alsa versions and even surfed the intel site.
I finally went into the bios, turned off the onboard sound and slapped an
old PCI Sound Blaster card in and sound configured perfectly the first
time. Of course I can't bill the customer for all the time I wasted on that
crap intel sound system. But hey, dell saved 37ยข).
