The only solution under 10.2 is to recompile the kernel. There's no need

Well, Windows running in a VMware virtual machine under openSuSE 10.2 is 
totally cut of from USB, so rather than a "no-brainer," it's more 
like "no-go."

And I don't think the Desktop Manager exists for Linux, but if you find 
something out, my friend and I would love to hear about it.
