Well, I was just kidding. Laurie Anderson has always been a minority 
taste, but there _is_ great music both from still-living artitsts _and_ 
from non-Europeans (living or not)...

It's not a saying, as such. It's a line from one of her songs. It came 
to mind in the context of juxtaposing incommensurates.

I usually consider that a glib criticism that rarely comes from 
programmers who, much as they want to write tight code, must balance 
the requirement for producing correct code with the desire for 
efficient code all in the face of stringent, often unrealistic, 
scheduling constraints.
