We used a 9.3 updated zone file on a very old SuSE 6.4 system without issue.

Yes, but you do not need to: normal security updates (YOU) will do
whatever is needed.
Well, apparently for me and someone else, it didn't. I had to change
the timezone for the change to take effect on my 10.0 firewall, though
it was updated on two 10.2 systems.
