IIRC this came in with 10.0, so it may be a bit late to complain now.
;)  I think it's a consequence of the HAL automounting stuff, which is
slick when it works.  Unfortunately it doesn't always.  Upgrading from
10.1 to 10.2 broke automounting of USB floppy drives, for example.
