What brand is it?  What file system type is on it?  I have a cheap PNY 1 Gig 
that works fine (in KDE).

Additionally, I have:

usbfs                /proc/bus/usb        usbfs      noauto                0 0

in my /etc/fstab, which may or may not make a difference.  Have you tried 
manually mounting your drive from the command prompt?
