Some do some don't it all depends on the modem. We went through all this on the Thinkpad list. It all depends on the chip set. Some sets are supported some not. You got lucky. This is 4 years of the same issue same response. Very bluntly the people at SuSE do not understand how people use laptops or that modems are required.
