And you are right about security, you are definitely entering the better world! Unless you log in and out frequently, nothing wrong with a long login name. The users and groups are actually tracked in the kernel by a number assigned at the time the user/group is created. You (as root) can edit the password file manually (with "vipw", a derivative of the editor "vi") and change the login name, full name, etc. Or you could create a new user, and copy files over from your existing home folder, but then you have to "chown" and "chmod" several things. I'd suggest you get to know "man", and take your time understanding file permissions and such. (If you are already beyond that, excuse me...) Try "man vipw", "man vi", and even "man man" for starters...but don't do anything until you understand the foundation. Most of all, don't get frustrated.
