I've 2 rather old notebooks which do this, too.
One of the batteries is dead and those machines do both reboot if there
the dead batterie is installed or no batterie at all. They even reboot
now and then if I connect the power supply.
With the still working batterie both "run" without issues.
Maybe something happened in your notebook's power supply system?
