Could I make some of the memory disappear from most of the kernel
and user space? So I can evaluate performance on a smaller memory
without removing them physically.
No idea, but what are you looking for. I think there is a way to set
the RAM size at boot. But, I can tell you that v10.2 runs well with
just 256MB RAM on a P3/500 without ZMD, Bealge, and OpenOffice. 512MB
is better. I have a p3/500 with 160MB running KDE just fine that I
use as a video player with mplayer, and a Xeon/2.67 Ghz with just
128MB and no GUI as a server.
