This is true, but the number of virtual terminals is controlled by /etc/inittab. Most distros, including SuSE use 1-6 as VTs, and 7 as the first session, but some, such as KNoppix use fewer virtual terminals. In any case, both the ability to have multiple desktop sessions as well as virtual terminals is an excellent feature.
