Hi,

we have in our institute 8 old HP PL class workstation.
They have 2*1GHz CPUs and 2GB ECC-RAM, so it's still a useable
hardware (A6038A - Adaptec 7890, SCSI HD, Matrox AGP, e100).

I've tried to install a current SuSE release, but it's
not working very well.
The installation did not work over the network (time outs).
The installation worked using a DVD, but when I tried to configure
the graphic card, the system stops working.
Now even booting is not possible.

One time I managed to boot a knoppix CD, but the next time
it's freezing, too.

The normal memory and CPU test do not show any starnge behavior.
Also the old system (SuSE 8.2 was running stable).

Any idea or hints for this special hardware ?

     Peer
