Yep, that's the way to go. If you do not see any picture on your monitor, and you hear no beeps, check vga-card first. Is it seated properly? If it is an SLI- or Crossfire-card, does it need an extra powerplug inserted on the card itself? Do use it. If that is all ok and still no beeps or picture take out the memory (so you have none at all left) and start. If the system is not beeping then, you have a serious hardware problem and might have to change either cpu or mobo. I have also experienced, that emptying the bios memory (take out battery and shorten with jumper) sometimes helps to revive a PC.
