Well no, this looks crazy to me.
What I would do:

1.in a terminal (ex. in konsole)
ping www.opensuse.org (just an example, you can use your favourite
webpage here)

if it does not work:
(as root) rcSuSEfirewall2 stop

ping should work now. If not, make it work.
Actually, strictly speaking, this does not say to much about your
network, but for a start, I would ensure that www.opensuse.org is
basically reachable via ping.

2. in a terminal (ex. in konsole)
w3m www.opensuse.org

You should see a very basic textual version of the website now.

As long as this does not work, you should make it work.
After it works, any other Browser (Konqueror, Firefox, Opera, Internet
Explorer with Linux...) should do, just as well.

Another option:
Start firefox as root (very insecure!!!, just for test)
for example with this:
1. ssh -X [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2. give root Password

3. firefox

Final option (needing some basic network knowledge):
Install wireshark (a very good graphical network scanner) with Yast.
Then start it up and set it to record your network traffic. Afterwards
startup firefox and see what is recorded, when it fails to connect to
the internet.

Sorry for not having a better idea

regards
