I'm busy checking that everything survived the big switch, and I just
noticed that GoogleEarth now refuses to start (never reaches past its
splash screen). Latest version of GE available. Tried reinstalling from
the .bin -- no effect.
Any hint ?

Are you using ATI card with the proprietary driver?
