Well, that showed one of these every three seconds:

Further investigation shows that the source MAC address belongs to a
wired port on the wireless access point. When this laptop is on a
wire the traffic doesn't occur, but when on wireless it is there. Any
suggestions as to what it is and maybe how to stop it. The AP is a

One packet every three seconds is next to nothing. Why bother?

Well, that would depend on what it is. For example, you'll often see spanning tree protocol between switches. This is expected and harmless. On the other hand, it might be a virus (such as Microsoft <g>) trying to phone home with your confidential info. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered that a customer, located a few hundred miles away, apparently had a virus running on a computer on his network. I discovered this while trying to find the cause of performance issues with our equipment. I used an ethereal dump to find it.
