If I might help, the correct way to do this is as follows: 1/ make sure you have enabled pop access in your gmail account settings. 2/ Go to this page to read general instructions on how to set up your email client for pop access to gmail- <http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13287&topic=1556> 3/ Where it says you have to set a port number you can't do that in evolution, so you append the port number to the url instead like this - "pop.googlemail.com:995". Remove quotes and put that in your "incoming Mail (POP3) server setting box 4/ Similarly, where it says to set a port number for outgoing server you append the port number to the url like this - "smtp.googlemail.com:465". Contrary to what another user said, you _can_ use gmail as your outgoing server. You can choose your provider instead, but gmail works as your outgoing too if you want instead. 5/ Finally, make sure you use all the security protocols that the gmail help says or it won't work. > Same is the case for SMTP also only choice of Authentication type > PLAIN is returning with success. If you set the port numbers as I said then you will be able to use it with the proper security protocols and not use PLAIN.
