Also, you should clarify some things: Which desktop environment are you
using?
I use KDE from open SuSE 10.2 with 2.6.21-8 kernel.
When you say "text" mode, do you mean a virtual console, or a
shell running within a terminal emulator in a graphic desktop
environment (or both)?
I mean a virtual console, once the session is locked I can obtain a
virtual console.
