Doh! Self-inflicted injury. At some point I pulled out the cable and
plugged back the wrong one :(  As soon as I plugged in the correct one,
it printed the queued jobs.

I removed the hash from the start of the line "#epson". I hope that's
what you meant - there's no epkowa line. Then I started YaST scanner and
it found a PM-870 or somesuch and said it was using epson driver. I told
it that I really had a RX620 and it installed that with epkowa driver. I
deleted the PM-870. When I said next, it installed iscan-free as we
expected and the scanner now works.
