In my experience, the routing tables tend to show some very simply
failures. As an example, I've seen cases in both Linux and Windows
where the default route was incorrect for some reason.  Additionally, I
think we have seen the need for it on this forum when someone has a
comm problem. Certainly ifconfig is very important.
