Try setting the resolution by hand in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. MAKE
a backup of the file first - I have knocked myself out after messing it
up without a working backup.
You can try your new res by starting a second X session:
X :1
use Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to kill it.

You may also want to try sax2 -v or something like that check the man
page there is a flag to let you do what you want and will not hide or
suggest appropriate resolutions. All of this of course is not
advisable unless you are sure you know what you are doing. I managed
to get out of similiar situation with this approach - Windows OK,
Linux - NO so I used the flag set the resolution, exit X session back
in all OK.

Good luck.
