for your info: my problem is a known bug: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=137232 As I read there, kdewallet doesn't save its data when logging out from kde. So I closed kdewallet manually (right click on wallet icon in system tray->close all wallets). This way the new password was saved correctly.
