You are completely right. The kernel I mentioned was the kernel in use for the 
Suse 10.0 which I tried to improve with a 2.6.20 kernel. Gave up and 
installed on a second partition 10.2 which runs 2.6.18.8.-0.5-default.
Caffeine level down. Got tea :(
