No, patching schedulers has caused me pain in the past (since SUSE patches
conflicted with SD for example).

On upgrade (i.e. removal of old kernel), your package manager should
automatically jump at the KMPs.
If you only install (i.e. keep the old kernel), it depends on your package
manager whether it will recognize the Enhances: rpm tags in the KMPs and
automatically add them.

In order to not clash with the Mesa libGL libraries, the nvidia rpm,
when first published, used a neat little trick in that it placed the
nvidia GL libs in a higher-priority search directory. /usr/X11R6/lib
has such higher priority over usr/lib, as you can see in
/etc/ld.so.conf. Since /usr/lib/xorg is not listed in etc/ld.so.conf,
it is not searched *at all*, hence, the Mesa libs would win. So if
you think, the missing /usr/lib/xorg is a bug, report it.

It is included.
