Yes. It will work, if it's stable release rpm package. 
The other issue is that you already have installed
"libgnomecanvas-devel" package and you're trying to upgrade a "base"
package from antoher release. So go and, install it by hand (it's the
best way, imho, at least) using --force option in rpm command.
